“My Pilgrimage Comes to an End”

The Spanish word ‘El Camino’ means ‘the way’.  The Camino de Santiago, also known as ‘The Way of St. James’, is a 500-mile walk across northern Spain to the tomb of St. James.  This pilgrimage is at least 1000 years old, with hundreds of thousands of people walking it every year.

I’m back!!!.  It was an incredible trip, filled with challenges, emotions, pain, but mostly lots of amazing sights, culture, and people.  While I’m glad to be home, I already hope to have an opportunity to go back and maybe take some of you with me.

I have many stories to tell, and I’m slowly writing them up as I contemplate the experience.  You’ll see an article soon about trying to understand why it was so emotional for me arriving in Santiago.

Another article will talk about the people who weave in and out our lives.  Otherwise, you can expect to hear about Camino in homilies- or just ask me about it and I can talk your ear off.

Part of what made this meaningful as the interaction with folks back home.  Many of you were praying for us while I was praying for our parish from there.  It was also encouraging that so many folks followed our trip on my Facebook posts.  Every night I could see the comments and reactions, and that encouraged me to keep posting.  That was also good, because it caused me to reflect DAILY on the highlights so that I could share them.

In a way, my posts became my daily journal….something I’d like to take into my everyday life.

My pilgrimage comes to an end. Thanks for all the prayers and support.

“Buen Camino” to you all!!

A more complete account of his pilgrimage in words and pictures is available on the FACEBOOK page of Deacon Mike Seibert.
